Works in Progress

The woods, at dusk, with fog

Fiction

Amy is currently revising a YA novel, working title Outdoor Education (that’s probably going to change). It was selected for the Rogue Mentorship Program in Spring of 2022, and Amy is thrilled to be working with her mentor Christina Arellano on this project!

Synopsis

Gemma Mender put off her required Outdoor Education credit until her last year of high school. Just like she put off making a decision about university and dealing with her crumbling family life. But when a group orienteering exercise goes wrong, Gemma finds herself lost in the woods with a group that includes her former best friend, the agro alpha male school bully, and her current unrequited (and completely out of her league) crush. The group takes shelter in an abandoned cabin, but it's not big enough to hold all the secrets and revelations the night has in store for them. When disaster befalls one of the group, will Gemma break her pattern of indecisions and invisibility to save a classmate? And will this dysfunctional group be able to work together to find their way out of the woods before it's too late?

Creative Non-Fiction

In early 2022 Amy received a grant from Pat the Dog Theatre Creation, in conjunction with the City of Waterloo and the KW Community Foundation to begin work on a middle-grade non-fiction “Why To” guide about her favourite hobby, knitting!
